Moringa Supplements Linked to Multistate Salmonella Outbreak
In May 2026, the CDC announced that they had reopened an investigation into a multi-state Salmonella outbreak linked to moringa leaf powder supplements.
The agency confirmed 22 new infections across 4 newly affected states, bringing the outbreak to 119 cases and 32 hospitalizations in 36 states.
The outbreak involves two strains of Salmonella — Salmonella Typhimurium and Salmonella Newport. People got sick on dates ranging from August 22, 2025 through April 26, 2026, with patients ranging in age from less than 1 year to 81 years old. Wisconsin has the most cases at 16, followed by Minnesota with 9.
The CDC also issued a separate alert about an additional Salmonella Typhimurium outbreak tied to Mogo brand moringa capsules, with 18 cases and 7 hospitalizations across 14 states.
What Is the Salmonella Risk?
According to the FDA, Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Symptoms typically begin 6 hours to 6 days after exposure and may include:
- Diarrhea, which may be bloody
- Fever
- Stomach cramps and abdominal pain
- Nausea and vomiting
The FDA warns that in rare cases, Salmonella can enter the bloodstream and produce more severe complications, including arterial infections (infected aneurysms), endocarditis, and arthritis. Children under 5, adults older than 65, and people with weakened immune systems are more likely to develop a severe illnessA
According to the recall announcement from Total Nutrition:
“Total Nutrition Inc. of Deer Park, NY is voluntarily recalling TNVitamins Ultra Potent Complete Green Superfood and Doctor’s Pride Complete Green Superfood Ultra Potent Moringa Capsules (120 count) because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.”

The products are packaged in white HDPE supplement bottles with smooth white caps and 120 clear capsules filled with green moringa powder.
All of the recalled moringa products were sold online and shipped nationwide, including to Texas. The products have a long shelf-life with expiration dates running into 2027 and 2028. For updates, visit the FDA outbreak investigation page.
Previous Moringa Salmonella Recalls and Outbreaks
The 2026 moringa outbreaks follow a pattern of contamination problems in this segment of the supplement market. In January 2026, Superfoods, Inc. recalled all Live it Up Super Greens supplement powders, and Why Not Natural recalled its Pure Organic Moringa Green Superfood capsules after both were linked to the same outbreak strains.
Earlier in 2026, an extensively drug-resistant Salmonella outbreak was tied to Rosabella moringa capsules. With the May 2026 recalls by Total Nutrition, Inc. and Mogo Moringa LLC, this is now the latest chapter in a series of Salmonella incidents in the moringa supplement industry.
Legal Help for Texas Salmonella Victims
Moringa is a popular ingredient in dietary supplements sold across Texas. Many Texans take moringa capsules or super greens powders daily as part of a wellness routine.
When a dietary supplement is contaminated with a dangerous pathogen like Salmonella, the consequences can be severe, especially for children, the elderly, and immunocompromised. The companies that manufactured, packaged, and sold these products may be legally responsible for outbreaks.
Texans who got sick after taking a recalled moringa product may be entitled to compensation. A Texas Salmonella lawyer can help you understand your legal options and determine whether your illness is linked to the outbreak.
