Drug-Resistant Salmonella Infections Are Extremely Hard to Treat
This is the first-ever reported outbreak involving an extensively drug-resistant strain of Salmonella with particular genetic mutations that can survive nearly all antibiotic treatments.
Rosabella Moringa Capsules tested positive for a strain of Salmonella that has the NDM-1 caprbapenemase gene, according to the CDC.
These infections can dangerous because they are “extremely hard to treat and can be deadly. Detection is also challenging, as many clinical laboratories lack the necessary testing capacity.”
Moringa Powder Recalls for Salmonella
In recent months, health officials have announced multiple recalls for dietary supplements that contain moringa powder. These supplements are advertised as a “superfood” for health, but instead, several products have tested positive for Salmonella or been linked to outbreaks of illnesses.
One of the first recalls for moringa powder involved a Super Greens Powder® supplement that was sold at Sam’s Club. This powder was used to make “green smoothies,” and it included many ingredients – including powdered moringa leaf.
Since then, the FDA has announced several additional recalls for moringa leaf products, including Live It Up® Super Greens, Why Not Naturals® Moringa Capsules, and other products.
