UPDATE: Best Buy Recalls 187,000 Insignia Air Fryers
In March 2024, Best Buy recalled about 187,400 Insignia® Air Fryers and Air Fryer Ovens that can catch on fire and cause burns or lacerations. No injuries were reported, but Best Buy said it received 24 reports of the air fryers overheating/melting or glass shattering, including 6 reports of the air fryers catching on fire.
6,400 Secura Air Fryers Recalled
In September 2023, about 6,400 Secura Air Fryers were recalled in the U.S. and Canada after 9 reports of fires, smoking, or overheating.
The recall involves the following models:
- Model number SAF-53D (TXG-DT16E) with date code 1901
- Model number SAF-53 (TXG-DS16) with date codes 1903 and 1904
2 Million Cosori Air Fryers Recalled
In February 2023, over 2 million COSORI Air Fryers were recalled after 205 reports of fires, overheating, melting, burning, or smoking because “a wire connection in the air fryers can overheat,” according to the recall. At least 10 people were burned and there were 23 reports of property damage. The recalled air fryers were sold nationwide in the U.S., Canada and Mexico June 2018 through December 2022.
Magic Chef Air Fryer Recall
In October 2022, Newair recalled about 11,750 Magic Chef Air Fryers because they can overheat. No incidents were reported, but the recalled air fryers pose a fire hazard and a risk of burn injuries. The recalled air fryers have model numbers MCAF56DB (black) and MCAF56DW (white). They were sold from July 2018 through September 2020.
Best Buy Recalls Insignia Air Fryers for Fire & Burn Hazard
April 21, 2022 — Best Buy recalled about 635,000 Insignia Air Fryers in the U.S. after dozens of reports of the products overheating, melting, catching on fire, melting, or causing injuries.
Two injuries were reported in the air fryer recall, including a child who was injured on their leg. There were also 7 reports of minor property damage. In the U.S., there were 68 reports of the air fryers catching on fire, melting, or overheating.
Another 36 incidents were reported in Canada by Health Canada, where approximately 138,570 Insignia Air Fryers and Air Fryer Ovens were sold.
The recall involves the following air fryers:
- Insignia Digital Air Fryers
- Insignia Analog Air Fryers
- Insignia Digital Air Fryer Ovens
The recall includes products with model numbers: NS-AF32DBK9, NS-AF32MBK9, NS-AF50MBK9, NS-AF53DSS0, NS-AF53MSS0, NS-AF55DBK9, NS-AFO6DBK1 and NS-AFO6DSS1.
The air fryers have cooking chamber capacities from approximately 3.4 to 10 quarts. They were sold nationwide at Best Buy stores and online from November 2018 to February 2022 for $30 to $150.
