Secura Recalls 6,400 Air Fryers for Fire Hazard
In September 2023, Secura recalled about 6,400 air fryers in the U.S. and Canada after 9 reports of fires, smoking, or overheating.
What is the Problem?
Secura blamed the air fryer fires on a manufacturing defect that cause a wire connection to overheat. This could result in the air fryer becoming extremely hot, catching on fire, or emitting toxic smoke.
Was Anyone Injured?
No injuries were reported, but air fryers that overheat or catch on fire could potentially cause severe injuries, smoke inhalation, or death. Air fryers fires may also cause severe property damage or a house fire.
What Air Fryers Were Recalled?
The recall involves Secura® Air Fryers with Model number SAF-53D (TXG-DT16E) with date code 1901. These air fryers were black with silver accents and the “Secura” brand printed on top of the unit.
The recall also involves Secura® Air Fryers Model number SAF-53 (TXG-DS16) with date codes 1903 and 1904. These air fryers were black with silver, gray, white, or gold colored accents.
They were sold from May 2019 through October 2020 at thesecura.com and Amazon.com.
What Should I Do?
Secura is offering a free replacement air fryer or an Amazon gift card worth $45 to consumers. To get a refund, consumers must register on the recall website at https://www.thesecura.com/recall/.
