In October 2022, Newair recalled about 11,750 Magic Chef® Digital Air Fryer ovens because they can overheat, catch on fire, or cause burn injuries to people.

How Does an Air Fryer Work?

An air fryer is a countertop convection oven. It does not fry food using hot oil. Instead, air fryers use hot air to cook food. The appliance works by heating air up to 400ºF and circulating it around the food.

What is the Problem?

When an air fryer overheats, it can get much hotter than 400ºF. This can burn the food, cause the appliance or the food to catch on fire inside the oven, cause burn injuries to anyone who tries to touch the appliance or put out the fire, as well as serious property damage.

What Magic Chef Air Fryers Were Recalled?

The recall involves about 11,750 Magic Chef® Air Fryers with model numbers MCAF56DB (black) and MCAF56DW (white). The brand-name “Magic Chef” is printed on top of the fryers. On the bottom, there is a rating label with “Magic Chef” and the model number.

Where Were They Sold?

The recalled Magic Chef Air Fryers were sold online at Newair.com, Walmart.com, Wayfair.com, Amazon.com, and Target.com between July 2018 and September 2020 for $115 to $138.
