CPSC Issues Urgent Warning for ZroeZroe Heated Insoles
In April 2026, the CPSC issued an urgent product safety warning telling consumers to stop using ZroeZroe Heated Insoles immediately. The warning was issued because the internal lithium-ion battery can overheat and ignite while the insoles are in use, posing a risk of serious burn injury and fire.
How Many People Were Burned?
The CPSC has received 10 reports of ignition, fires, and other thermal incidents involving these insoles. At least 4 of those reports involved burn injuries, including 2nd- and 3rd-degree burns serious enough to require skin grafts.
Can I Get a Refund?
No recall has been formally announced as of May 1, 2026. The manufacturer, Taiyuan Haoming Electronic Commerce Co., Ltd. of China, has been unresponsive to CPSC requests for a recall or information. Because no recall has been issued, no remedy is available from the manufacturer.
What Is the Hazard?
The defect involves the lithium-ion battery embedded in the heel area of the insole. According to the CPSC, the battery can overheat and ignite while the insoles are being worn. When a lithium-ion battery fails in this way, it can rapidly reach extreme temperatures, producing open flames and toxic smoke within seconds.
Because the insoles sit inside a closed shoe or boot, the user’s foot is trapped directly against the igniting battery. By the time a person feels heat or pain, serious burn injuries may already be occurring.
Third-degree burns to the foot (the kind that require skin grafts and surgery) can result from just seconds of direct flame contact. Outdoor workers, hunters, and anyone wearing boots in cold weather may have little warning before a serious injury occurs.
Which Products Are Affected?
- Brand name: “ZroeZroe” or seller name “ZroeZroe” on the Amazon or eBay purchase receipt
- Appearance: Black and red insoles with a lithium-ion battery built into the heel area
- Operation: Remote control
- Where sold: Amazon.com and eBay
- Manufacturer: Taiyuan Haoming Electronic Commerce Co., Ltd., China
Where Were They Sold?
ZroeZroe Heated Insoles were sold on Amazon.com and eBay. Both platforms have a significant retail presence in Texas, and heated insoles are popular in Texas among hunters, outdoor workers, and anyone who spends time in cold weather.
The CPSC urges consumers to dispose of the defective insoles immediately according to local hazardous waste procedures.
Do not place them in household trash, curbside recycling, or used battery recycling boxes. Contact your municipal household hazardous waste (HHW) center before bringing the insoles. Ask whether it accepts defective lithium-ion batteries. Report any incidents at SaferProducts.gov.
How Many People in Texas Were Affected?
The CPSC has not released a state-by-state breakdown of the 10 reported incidents nationally. Because ZroeZroe Heated Insoles were sold on Amazon and eBay with nationwide delivery, Texas residents could be among those who may own the defective insoles.
If you were burned by a ZroeZroe Heated Insole and did not report it, you may still have legal options. Our lawyers are investigating these cases across Texas and nationwide.
Amazon and eBay as Defendants — What Texas Buyers Should Know
Because the manufacturer is a Chinese company that has refused to cooperate with U.S. safety officials, consumers injured by ZroeZroe Heated Insoles cannot seek a remedy through the manufacturer. However, Amazon and eBay are both large, solvent U.S. companies that may bear legal responsibility for selling a defective and dangerous product to U.S. consumers. Platform liability for products sold through third-party marketplaces is an active and developing area of product liability law, and Texas courts have addressed this issue in a growing number of cases.
