UPDATE: Walmart Expands Fruit Recall for Listeria Risk

On October 3, 2020, Walmart and its supplier, Country Fresh, expanded a fruit recall to include more Freshness Guaranteed® products that contain “cut and/or sliced apples, grapes, mangos, pineapples and cantaloupe” due to a risk of Listeria contamination.

No illnesses were reported when the recall was announced on October 3. Instead, FDA tests found Listeria on equipment near where the recalled fruit products were packaged.

The expanded recall includes products that were sold at Walmart stores in 9 states, including Texas, Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri and Oklahoma. They have “best if used by” dates from October 3 to October 11, 2020.

In October 2020, Walmart and RaceTrac gas stations in Texas recalled watermelon chunks, spears, and mixed fruit bowls with watermelon due to a risk of Listeria.

The recalled watermelon was packaged in a variety of clear plastic clamshell containers and bowls with best-by dates of October 2, 3, and 4, 2020. They were distributed from September 23-25, 2020.

The manufacturer, Country Fresh, recalled watermelon products in 5 states: Texas, Arkansas, Missouri, Illinois, and Oklahoma.

No illnesses were reported as of October 1, 2020. The recall was issued after FDA tests detected Listeria on packing equipment for the products.
