Walmart Expands Fruit Recall in Texas

In October 2020, Walmart and its fruit supplier, Country Fresh, announced two recalls for pre-cut fruit bowls that may be contaminated with Listeria, a bacteria that can cause severe food poisoning infections.

The original recall involved Freshness Guaranteed® watermelon chunks, watermelon spears, and “Summer Blend” mixed fruit bowls with watermelon.

The expanded a recall involved Walmart’s Freshness Guaranteed® fruit products with “cut and/or sliced apples, grapes, mangos, pineapples, and cantaloupe,” according to the recall

Walmart Watermelon Recall

On October 1, 2020, Walmart recalled Freshness Guaranteed® watermelon chunks, spears, and mixed fruit bowls containing watermelon.

They were sold in clear plastic clamshell containers with best-by dates of October 2, 3, and 4, 2020. They were distributed on September 23, 24, and 25, 2020.

The following watermelon products were recalled at Walmart:

• Watermelon 10 oz – UPC Code: 681131180672
• Watermelon 32 oz – UPC Code: 681131180672
• Watermelon Chunks 42 oz – UPC Code: 681131180658
• Watermelon Spears 16 oz – UPC Code: 681131180665
• Summer Blend 5 oz – UPC Code: 681131355094

On October 3, 2020, Walmart expanded the recall for Freshness Guaranteed® fruit to include the following items (with “best-by” dates between October 3 and October 11, 2020):
