Summer Infant Recalls SwaddleMe® By Your Bed Sleeper

In January 2020, Summer Infant recalled 46,300 SwaddleMe® By Your Bed Sleepers for babies because the products are inclined sleepers that pose a risk of suffocation and death.

No incidents have been linked to the SwaddleMe By Your Bed Sleeper, but it is similar to other inclined sleepers that are associated with at least 73 deaths and 1,000 incidents, including serious injuries.

What is an Inclined Sleeper?

Inclined sleepers and bassinets force an infant to sleep at an upward angle. They are advertised to help babies sleep better by preventing acid-reflux, but the design has proven to be extremely dangerous.

What is the Problem?

The problem with inclined sleepers is that babies can roll from their back to their stomach or side, traps their face against the fabric, and suffocate to death. Even babies who can’t roll over can still suffocate when their chin touches their chest and compresses their airway.

What Products Were Recalled?

Summer Infant recalled SwaddleMe By Your Bed Sleepers with Model Number 91394. Consumers can find the model number on the cross-bar tube of the frame between the two upright tubes.

Where Were They Sold?

SwaddleMe By Your Bed Sleepers were sold on amazon.com, Buy Buy Baby, juvenile product stores and mass merchandisers nationwide between March 2017 and December 2019 for about $99.

Summer Infant Delayed Recall After Safety Warning

Summer Infant issued the recall on January 29, nearly two weeks after federal safety officials warned consumers not to use SwaddleMe By Your Bed Sleepers on January 16 and began facilitating a recall.
