Frozen Shrimp Recalled After Salmonella Outbreak

In June 2021, Avanti Frozen Foods issued a nationwide recall for frozen, pre-cooked, peeled and deveined shrimp that was sold under many brand-names after an outbreak of Salmonella illnesses.

Consumers May Still Have Recalled Shrimp At Home

The recalled shrimp was imported to the U.S. between December 2020 and February 2021, but it may have been sold more recently. Health officials are asking consumers to check their freezers for it.

Frozen Shrimp Linked to Salmonella Outbreak

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) outbreak investigation has identified 6 people who were infected with the outbreak strain of Salmonella Weltevreden, including 2 people who were hospitalized.

The sick individuals lived in Nevada and Arizona. The illnesses were reported between February and April 2021, but more recent illnesses may not have been reported yet, so the case count may continue to grow.
