RockaRoo Baby Rocker Recall

In August 2022, a class action lawsuit was filed against the manufacturer of the RockaRoo Baby Rocker after the product was recalled due to a risk of injury, strangulation, and death.

The lawsuit accuses the manufacturer, 4moms, of putting profits over the safety of babies by continuing to sell the RockaRoo and MamaRoo for 3 years after a baby strangled on the hanging straps.

According to the lawsuit: “[4moms] was aware of the risk of infant strangulation of the recalled devices in August of 2018, when the first injury of this kind was reported to them. Yet, defendant continued to manufacture and sell the recalled devices.”

The RockaRoo Class Action Lawsuit was filed on August 29, 2022 in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania – Case Number 2:05-mc-02025.

220,000 RockaRoo Baby Rockers Recalled for Strangulation Hazard

On August 15, 2022, 4moms announced a Safety Recall for 220,000 RockaRoo Baby Rockers and more than 2 million MamaRoo Baby Swings after a baby strangled to death on the hanging straps. Another 10-month-old baby nearly died, but was rescued just in time, and suffered neck bruises.

What is the Problem?

When the swing or rocker is not in use, their restraint straps can hang below the seat. Babies who are not in the seat can crawl underneath, get their head or neck twisted in the straps, and strangle to death.

What is a RockaRoo?

The RockaRoo is a baby rocker with front-to-back gliding motion. The base has a knob and power button to control the range of motion of the rocker. The model number 4M-012 is on the bottom of the unit.

The swings and rockers were sold at BuyBuy Baby and Target stores nationwide and online at 4moms.com and Amazon from January 2010 through August 2022 for between $160 and $250.

Millions of Baby Products Recalled for Deadly Risks

In recent years, millions of baby products have been recalled because they pose deadly safety hazards. One of the most notorious products, the Fisher-Price Rock ‘n Play Sleeper, was linked to around 100 deaths and 1,100 injuries or close calls. Since then, many other recalls have been announced for inclined sleepers, baby rockers, gliders, and other products.
