What is Gordon’s Pondmaster?
Gordon’s Pondmaster® Surface & Shoreline Herbicide is a product for killing aquatic plants on shorelines and the surface of the water. It contains 18% glyphosate mixed with an aquatic surfactant.
Pondmaster is advertised to control plants such as hydrilla, water hyacinth, or cattails, in slow-moving bodies of water, such as ponds.
What is the Problem?
Glyphosate is the active ingredient in Pondmaster® and Monsanto’s Roundup®. Unfortunately, glyphosate has been linked to higher rates of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in studies of farm-workers in the U.S., Canada, and Sweden. Based on these studies, glyphosate was upgraded to a “probable human carcinogen” by the World Health Organization’s cancer-research agency.
Glyphosate Lawsuits & Class Actions
Monsanto, the manufacturer of glyphosate, is facing over 4,000 lawsuits from people who developed lymphoma. These lawsuits are centralized in a federal Multi-District Litigation (MDL No. 2741) in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. Many lawsuits have also been filed in state courts.
Does Roundup Cause Cancer?
Monsanto is accused of failing to provide consumers with warning labels on Roundup® about the potential risk of cancer. Lawyers allege that Monsanto has known about studies linking glyphosate and cancer for years, and continues to downplay the possible risk of cancer.
What is Lymphoma?
Lymphoma is a blood cancer that occurs when infection-fighting cells called lymphocytes multiply out of control. The symptoms depend on where it is located in the body, but may include swelling of the lymph nodes, fatigue, fever, night sweats, and more.
Types of Lymphoma Linked to Glyphosate
- Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma
- Large Diffuse B-cell (DLBCL)
- Follicullar Lymphoma
- Cutaneous T-Cell
- Anapalastic T-cell
- Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia
- Small Lymphocytic Lymphoma
- Mantle Cell Lymphoma
