What is Gordon’s Pondmaster?

Gordon’s Pondmaster® Surface & Shoreline Herbicide is a product for killing aquatic plants on shorelines and the surface of the water. It contains 18% glyphosate mixed with an aquatic surfactant.

Pondmaster is advertised to control plants such as hydrilla, water hyacinth, or cattails, in slow-moving bodies of water, such as ponds.

What is the Problem?

Glyphosate is the active ingredient in Pondmaster® and Monsanto’s Roundup®. Unfortunately, glyphosate has been linked to higher rates of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in studies of farm-workers in the U.S., Canada, and Sweden. Based on these studies, glyphosate was upgraded to a “probable human carcinogen” by the World Health Organization’s cancer-research agency.
