Mushrooms Recalled in Texas After Salmonella Outbreak
In September 2020, Wismettac Asian Foods recalled Shirakiku® Black Fungus after a bag tested positive for Salmonella Stanley.
The recalled mushrooms were distributed to restaurants in Texas and 31 other states. They were not sold directly to consumers in stores.

How Many People Are Sick?
As of September 24, 2020, at least 41 people in 10 states have been infected with Salmonella Stanley from January 21 through August 26, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
No illnesses have been reported in Texas. The states reporting illnesses are Arizona (1), California (25), Connecticut (1), Georgia (1), Illinois (5), Louisiana (1), New Jersey (2), New York City (1), Pennsylvania (2), and Wisconsin (2).
Ramen Linked to Mushroom Salmonella Outbreak
Dried wood ear mushrooms are also commonly called Kikurage, Dried Black Fungus, Dried Fungus, Mu’er, Mu Er, or Mu-Err. They are commonly served on ramen soup at restaurants.
Ramen restaurants in 3 states were linked to 4 separate clusters of illnesses, according to the CDC. At least 16 sick people ate at a ramen restaurant in the week before their illness.
What Mushrooms Were Recalled?
The recall involves Shirakiku® Black Fungus (also called “wood ear mushrooms” or “kikurage”).
The dried mushrooms were imported from China, distributed in the U.S. to restaurants in 6 packs of 5-pound bags, and labeled with UPC 00074410604305 and Item #60403.
