Merax Murphy Beds Recalled for Injury Hazards During Installation
In August 2026, GigaCloud Technology USA issued a recall for approximately 1,250 Merax® Murpy Beds after the company received 2 reports of people who were injured when the unsecured bed-frame fell during assembly.
According to the recall:
“The firm has received two reports of the Murphy beds falling during assembly, when the Murphy beds were not anchored to the wall, resulting in two injured consumers. One consumer sustained bruising to his head, neck and right shoulder and one consumer sustained a hit to his head, and scrapes and bruises on his arms.”
Where Were They Sold?
The recall includes full-size and twin-size wall beds with model numbers GX000392AAK, GX000391AAK, and GX000383AAK. They were sold by online retailers between May 2024 and February 2026, including Amazon, HomeDepot.com, Wayfair, Walmart.com, Target.com, Overstock.com, Temu, and others.
What Are Murphy Beds?
Murphy beds, also known as wall beds, are wall-mounted beds that can fold up inside a cabinet, or fold down to be used as a bed. When a person wants to use the bed, they fold it down out of the cabinet using a piston-spring lift system. The problem is that during assembly, if the springs aren’t loaded correctly or the frame isn’t yet secured to the wall, the heavy frame of the bed can fall onto anyone nearby.
What Is the Crush and Impact Danger?
Murphy beds weigh over 100 pounds. If the bed-frame falls onto a person, it poses a risk of serious impact injuries, crush injuries, lacerations, head injuries, and potentially even death.
The injuries reported in this recall both occurred during installation when the bed was not securied to the wall. These injuries include:
- Bruises to the head, neck, and right shoulder
- Head injury, as well as scrapes and bruises on the arms
