Kids2 Re-Announces Rocker Recall After 15 Baby Deaths
In January 2023, Kids2 re-announced a recall for around 694,000 Kids2 Rocking Sleepers after 4 more deaths were reported since the original recall in April 2019. In total, 15 baby deaths have been linked to Kids2 Rocking Sleepers, according to the recall.
The recall involves all modes of Kids2 Rocking Sleepers, which were sold nationwide at major stores like Walmart, Target and Toys “R” Us and online from March 2012 through April 2019 for between $40 and $80.
The Kids2 Rocking Sleeper has a nearly identical design as the Fisher-Price Rock ‘n Play Sleeper, which has been linked to approximately 100 baby deaths since it was introduced in 2009.
In a statement from CPSC Chairman Alexander Hoehn-Saric:
“We are issuing this announcement because, despite their removal from the marketplace and a prohibition on their sale, babies continue to die in these products. … Unfortunately, today’s announcement highlights the fact that these products are still in too many homes, and babies continue to be put at risk.”
Kids2 Infant-to-Toddler Rocker Linked to 1 Baby Death in 2019
In June 2022, Kids2 issued a Safety Warning after a baby died in a Bright Starts® Disney Baby® Minnie Mouse Infant-to-Toddler Rocker in 2019. The company issued this warning:
“Kids2 Bright Starts and Baby Einstein Rockers should never be used for sleep and infants should never be unsupervised or unrestrained in the Rockers.”
Kids2 sells many types of baby rockers that pose deadly safety hazards for babies. The baby who died was using a Kids II Bright Starts Disney Baby Minnie Mouse Stars and Smiles Infant-to-Toddler Rocker, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).
What is the Risk?
Babies can suffocate to death in minutes when using an inclined sleeper or baby rockers. The problem is that babies can flip over from their back to their stomach, or twist onto their side, and get trapped with their face pressed into the fabric.
Head Injury & Tip-Over Risk of Baby Rockers
Baby rockers also pose a risk of head injuries. The problem is that older babies can flip the rocker forward, lean over the side, or tip over and hit their head on the floor, even when they are properly restrained with the harness.
Babies can suffer serious head injuries, lacerations, or get trapped under the rocker. There are many 1-star reviews on amazon.com of babies who tipped over in a rocker, even while wearing the harness.
Kids2 Recalls All Rocking Sleepers After 5 Baby Deaths
In April 2019, Kids2 recalled around 700,000 Rocking Sleepers after 5 babies suffocated to death (by January 2023, there were 15 deaths reported). The recalled rocking sleepers were sold under dozens of brands, including Disney Baby, Bright Starts, Ingenuity, Rock ‘n Soothe, DreamComfort, and more.
