Best Buy Recalls 930,000 Insignia Pressure Cookers

In October 2023, Best Buy recalled about 930,000 Insignia Pressure Cookers after at least 17 people were severely burned.

What is the Problem?

Best Buy recalled the Insignia Pressure Cookers because there are incorrect volume markings on the inner pot. As a result, users may overfill the inner pot, resulting in an explosion of hot food or liquid.

According to the recall notice, overfilling the pressure cooker may cause “hot food and liquids to be ejected when the pressure cooker is vented using the quick release method or opened while its contents are pressurized, posing a burn hazard to consumers.”

How Many People Were Burned?

Best Buy said it received 31 reports of the contents of the pressure cooker being expelled, including 17 people who were burned. Some of the burn injuries were severe 2nd-degree or 3rd-degree burns.

Where Were They Sold?

The recalled pressure cookers Best Buy stores nationwide and online at www.bestbuy.com and www.amazon.com from October 2017 through June 2023 for between $50 and $120.

Was My Pressure Cooker Recalled?

This recall involves Insignia Multi-Function Pressure Cookers in 6-qt. and 8-qt. capacity, with model numbers NS-MC60SS8, NS-MC60SS9, or NS-MC80SS9. The model number is printed on a permanent on-product label that is located on the side of the cooker.

The recall also involves inner cooker pots with model numbers NS-MCRP6NS9 and NS-MCRP6SS9, which were sold separately as replacements.

The inner cooker pots are black with a non-stick coating and embossed markings indicating cup and liter measurements.
