In July 2026, Best Buy recalled about 3,820 Insignia gas ranges because the front-mounted knobs can be turned on by accidental contact from people or pets, posing a fire hazard. It is the third stove recall in under two years over the same knob defect that has been linked to hundreds of fires.

Best Buy Recalled Insignia Gas Ranges for a Fire Hazard
In July 2026, Best Buy recalled approximately 3,820 Insignia Front Control Gas Ranges through the CPSC. The recall covers two stainless steel models, NS-RGFGSS1 and NS-RGFCGS2, each with 5 knobs mounted across the front.
Best Buy has received 1 report of the knobs being turned on by accidental contact nationwide. No injuries have been reported. The recall was issued as a preventive step before anyone was hurt.
What Is the Fire Danger?
The CPSC warns that front-mounted knobs can be activated by accidental contact from humans or pets, posing a risk of serious injury from a fire hazard. Because the controls sit at the front of the range, a passing person or a pet can turn a burner on without anyone noticing.
On a gas stove, an unnoticed knob turn can ignite a burner or release gas near dish towels, packaging, or anything else resting on the cooktop. The CPSC urges owners to keep the cooktop clear and to confirm the knobs are off before leaving home or going to sleep.
Which Insignia Gas Ranges Are Affected?
You can find the model number on a label inside the range’s bottom drawer. The recall includes ranges matching these details:
- Model numbers NS-RGFGSS1 or NS-RGFCGS2
- Stainless steel range with five front-mounted knobs
- “Insignia” label on the bottom of the oven door
- Sold between November 2020 and March 2026 for $280 to $1,470
Where Were They Sold?
The recalled ranges were sold at Best Buy stores nationwide and online at bestbuy.com, including at Best Buy locations across Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, Austin, and Fort Worth. Best Buy is offering owners a free set of compatible knob covers with instructions.
If you own one of these ranges, the CPSC says to stop using the oven and request the covers at Best Buy’s recall page, recallrtr.com/range, or by calling 800-566-7498.
Previous Recalls of Stoves With the Same Knob Defect
The Insignia recall follows two far larger actions over knobs that turn on by accidental contact. In August 2024, Samsung recalled about 1.1 million slide-in electric ranges after more than 300 reports of unintentional activation and roughly 250 fires, as covered on our Texas Samsung range fire page.
In February 2025, LG recalled about 500,000 electric ranges for the same problem, with the CPSC reporting more than 28 fires and three fires involving pet deaths. Texans can read more on our Texas LG electric range page, and review the federal notices for the Samsung and LG recalls.
This repeated pattern matters for liability. When a manufacturer sells a range with a control design that regulators have tied to fires again and again, injured families may have strong grounds to hold that company accountable.
How Many People in Texas Were Affected?
There is no confirmed Texas-specific injury count for the Insignia ranges, and no injuries have been reported nationally so far. Because these ranges sold at Best Buy stores throughout Texas for more than five years, many could still in use in Texas kitchens.
If a fire in your home was linked to an Insignia gas range, or to another recalled stove with the same knob defect, our lawyers may be able to help you understand your options.
Legal Help for Texas Families Injured by Range Fires
A kitchen fire can move fast, damaging a home and injuring the people inside before anyone smells smoke. For Texas families in apartments, rental homes, and busy households with kids and pets, a stove that can switch on by itself is a serious danger.
Texans who were burned or lost property in a fire linked to a recalled Insignia gas range may be entitled to compensation for medical bills, property damage, lost wages, and pain and suffering. A Texas product liability lawyer can help you understand your rights.
