Graco Little Lounger Rocking Seat Recall
In January 2020, Graco issued a recall for 111,000 Little Lounger Rocking Seats in the U.S. and 1,800 in Mexico because infants can roll over and suffocate, or die under other circumstances.
What is the Problem?
Graco’s Little Loungers were not linked to any reports of injuries or deaths, but they are very similar to other inclined baby sleepers that are now linked to over 1,000 incidents and at least 73 baby deaths.
What Products Were Recalled?
The Little Lounger Rocking Seats™ are two products in one, a rocking seat and a vibrating lounger. The recall involves products with the following Model Numbers: 1872034, 1875063, 1875102, 1877160, 1882081, 1896313, 1908957, 1914283, 2047734 and 1922809.
Where Were they Sold?
Little Lounger Rocking Seats were sold nationwide at Target, Babies R Us, other stores and online from 2013 through 2018 for about $80. Graco is asking consumers to immediately stop using the product and contact the company for a cash refund or a voucher.
Suffocation Hazards of Inclined Baby Sleeping Products
Inclined baby sleeping products are advertised to help babies sleep better by elevating them at an angle of up to 30º. Unfortunately, babies can suffocate when they roll over from their back to their stomach or side because their face gets trapped against the fabric.
Even very young infants who can’t roll over can suffocate in an inclined sleeper. The problem is that young babies can’t hold their head up at an angle. Their airway can become compressed and they can suffocate in a condition known as “positional asphyxia.”
Baby Sleeper Lawsuits & Class Actions
A growing number of lawsuits have been filed by the families of babies who died in inclined baby sleeping products. Many lawsuits involve Fisher-Price’s Rock ‘n Play Sleepers, which were recalled after dozens of deaths. Lawsuits claim these recalls came far too late.
