Flock Party Quack Snacks® Recalled for Salmonella Risk

In June 2021, Manna Pro Products LLC recalled Flock Party Quack Snacks® (Poultry Treats) due to a risk of Salmonella infections. No illnesses were reported, but the State of West Virginia reported that a bag tested positive for Salmonella bacteria.

The recall only involves 1.68-pound bags of Flock Party Quack Snacks with a “Best-By” date of 12/2023. The recalled products have been distributed at stores since February 2, 2021.

Salmonella Risk From Chickens & Ducks

Chickens and ducks who eat contaminated treats may become infected with Salmonella, and then carry the bacteria in their intestines without looking dirty or unhealthy.

Salmonella germs can easily spread to the eggs, feathers, droppings, feet, beaks, and anything in the areas where the birds live and roam.

People can easily become sick when they touch anything that is contaminated with Salmonella, and do not thoroughly wash their hands afterward, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Signs & Symptoms of a Salmonella Infection

People who are infected with Salmonella may suffer from nausea, vomiting, diarrhea (may be bloody), abdominal cramps, and fever. The risk of a serious infection is higher for children under 5 years old.

Furthermore, the FDA warns: “Rarely, Salmonella can result in more serious ailments, including arterial infections, endocarditis, arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation, and urinary tract symptoms.”
