What is Campaign®?
Monsanto is the manufacturer of Campaign®, a broad-spectrum post-emergence herbicide for non-crop, rangeland, and industrial weed control. The ingredients include glyphosate (12.9%), 2,4-D, isopropylamine salt (20.6%), N-Methylpyrrolidone (>7%), and unspecified surfactant(s) (10-20%).
What is the problem?
The active ingredient in Campaign is glyphosate, which is the same herbicide in Monsanto’s Roundup®. In recent years, experts have raised concerns about the possible cancer-causing side effects of glyphosate after studies of farm-workers in the U.S., Canada, and Sweden found higher rates of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
Glyphosate and Cancer
In March 2015, glyphosate was re-classified as a “probable human carcinogen” (probably causes cancer in people) by the World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC). Since then, thousands of lawsuits have been filed against Monsanto.
$289 Million Awarded in Glyphosate Cancer Lawsuit
In August 2018, Monsanto was ordered to pay $289 million to a man from San Francisco who developed lymphoma after years of using glyphosate at work. He accused Monsanto of downplaying the risk of cancer and failing to provide adequate warning labels on Roundup.
