Barcelona Nut Co. Pistachio Recall

What Pistachio Nuts Were Recalled?
The recall includes 239 cases of pistachio nuts in “Barcelona®” brand Red-White-and-Blue plastic bags. The pistachios were distributed in Washington D.C., Maryland, Pennsylvania, Delaware, New York, California, Virginia, Ohio, New Jersey, and Georgia.
The following pistachios are subject to recall:
- 2.75 oz., UPC 030239130001 with expiration date 9/18/2019
- 2.25 oz., UPC 030239149034 with expiration date 9/17/2019 and 10/9/2019

- 1 oz. Green plastic film package pictured UPC 030239510148 with expiration dates 10/4/2019 and 10/10/2019.
What is the Problem?
The pistachios were recalled by ARO, a processor and supplier for Barcelona Nut Co., after a separate manufacturer tested a product and it was positive for Salmonella. Barcelona Nut Co. has stopped production and distribution of this lot of pistachio nuts during the investigation.
Salmonella Food Poisoning
Food poisoning with Salmonella bacteria can cause a severe, life-threatening illness, especially in young children and people with vulnerable immune systems.
The symptoms of a Salmonella infection may include fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.
“In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.”
