November 18, 2013 — Liver injuries associated with OxyElite Pro have been reported in 13 states, including California, Ohio, and Hawaii. The number of liver injuries has risen to 56, including one death. The Texas-based manufacturer of OxyElite Pro, USPLabs, has voluntarily recalled the product.
The San Diego Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) has reported that a 45 year-old woman who was taking OxyElite Pro for weight-loss was hospitalized with acute liver failure. She has since been released and is recovering. Health officials are warning people who own OxyElite Pro to stop using the product immediately.
In addition, a 33 year-old woman from Cleveland, Ohio was hospitalized with liver damage at University Hospitals Case Medical Center. She took the weight-loss product for several months before developing severe jaundice (yellowing of the whites of the eyes, skin, and mucous membranes).
