Insignia Pressure Cooker Lawsuit Filed Against Best Buy

March 3, 2025 — A woman who was burned by an Insignia Pressure Cooker has filed a lawsuit against the Minnesota-based retailer Best Buy.

The lawsuit was filed by a woman from Baltimore, Maryland, who was injured in September 2022 by a pressure cooker from Best Buy.

Her lawsuit claims that she was burned when scalding-hot food and steam ejected out of the pressure cooker when she opened the lid.

She blames her injuries on defective “safety features” that failed to lock the lid and prevent it from opening when the unit was still pressurized.

Opening the lid caused the sudden release of built-up pressure, which also ejected the hot contents of the pressure cooker onto her body, resulting in severe burn injuries and scalds.

The incident involved a now-recalled pressure cooker, an Insignia 6-Qt. Multi-Function Pressure Cooker (Model Number NS-MC60SS9).

This product was recalled in October 2023 after Best Buy received “31 reports of incidents in which the contents were expelled under pressure, including 17 reports of burn injuries, some of which involved reports of second-degree and severe burns,” according to the recall.

Her lawsuit accuses Best Buy of selling defective and “unreasonably dangerous” pressure cookers.

Her lawsuit was filed on February 5, 2025 in the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota — Case Number 0:25-cv-00441.
