January 7, 2019 — Hy-Vee, Inc., of West Des Moines, Iowa, has announced a voluntary recall for cheesecake that may be contaminated with Salmonella.
Hy-Vee grocery stores in 8 states recalled the cheesecake after an unnamed supplier discovered a risk of Salmonella contamination, according to a recall notice from Hy-Vee on January 4. No illnesses were reported.
The contamination was linked to a mix manufactured by Diamond Crystal Brands.
The recall involves 32 different varieties of cheesecake that were sold in plastic containers, in either 8-oz or 32-oz sizes, with “Best-Before” dates from December 6, 2018 through January 11, 2019.
The cheesecakes were sold in Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, Minnesota, and Wisconsin.
Salmonella infections can cause fever, abdominal pain, and diarrhea, with symptoms usually lasting for about 1 week. Healthy adults typically get better without medical treatment, but Salmonella infections can be life-threatening or fatal.
