November 15, 2022 — Safety officials are warning parents not to use the DockATot Deluxe+ after multiple reports of babies who suffocated to death.
On November 9, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) warned parents that “it is unsafe for your baby to sleep in a DockATot Deluxe+; immediately discontinue its use.”
The manufacturer has been advertising the DockATot as a sleep product for babies “even though it is not safe for sleep,” according to the CPSC warning. Several babies have suffocated to death in it.
“You can read caregivers’ stories of their worst nightmares becoming reality using this product,” said CPSC Chairman Richard Trumka.
Last year, the CPSC issued a new rule for infant sleep products, called the Infant Sleep Product Rule. The DockATot violates these new rules, and no products manufactured after June 23, 2022 may be sold in the U.S., according to the CPSC.
The new rules ban flat or “non-inclined” infant sleep products like the DockATot because it does not have a stand, fails to meet stability requirements, and does not have a side height of at least 7.5 inches.
The new rules also ban inclined sleepers with an angle greater than 10º due to a suffocation hazard.
Inclined sleepers have been linked to more than 100 tragic deaths when babies rolled over and got their face gets pressed against the fabric, or suffocated under other circumstances (such as positional asphyxia, SIDS, etc.).
