RAW FARM Linked to Multistate E. Coli Outbreak
In March 2026, health officials warned the public about a multi-state outbreak of E. coli O157:H7 illnesses that was linked to RAW FARM® Raw Cheddar Cheese manufactured by RAW FARM, LLC of Fresno, California.
As of March 14, 2026, 7 illnesses have been confirmed in California, Florida, and Texas, with illness onset dates ranging from September 2025 through February 2026. Two patients were hospitalized. The FDA recommended that RAW FARM voluntarily remove its products from the market, but the company refused.
What Is the E. Coli Risk?
E. coli O157:H7 is a Shiga toxin-producing strain that can cause severe illness, especially in young children and other high-risk individuals. Symptoms typically begin 3 to 9 days after eating contaminated food and may include:
- Severe stomach cramps
- Bloody diarrhea
- Vomiting
- Fever
In serious cases, the infection can progress to Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (HUS), a life-threatening form of kidney failure. Children under 5, elderly adults, pregnant women, and immunocompromised individuals are at highest risk.
Which Products Are Affected?
Health officials are warning people about the risk of E. coli in the following products:
- RAW FARM Raw Cheddar Cheese — all sizes, block format
- RAW FARM Raw Cheddar Cheese — all sizes, shredded format
Where Were They Sold?
Both products are sold at Sprouts Farmers Market stores other and natural food retailers nationwide, including Texas. If you have either product at home, health officials recommend that you do not eat it and discard it. Wash any surfaces or containers that may have touched the cheese with hot soapy water. Legal Help for E. Coli Victims in Texas
Texas is home to a large and growing market for raw dairy products, sold at natural food stores and national chains like Sprouts Farmers Market across Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, Austin, and beyond. Many Texas families, including parents of young children, purchase RAW FARM-brand raw cheddar cheese.
When a raw dairy product is contaminated with a dangerous pathogen like E. coli O157:H7, the consequences can be deadly, especially for children. Alarmingly, 4 of the 7 confirmed victims in this outbreak are 3 years old or younger. The strain of E. coli can cause Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (HUS), a form of kidney failure that requires hospitalization. In young children, HUS can be deadly.
How Many People In Texas Got Sick?
In Texas, at least 1 confirmed case has been reported in this outbreak. With RAW FARM products distributed nationwide and widely available at Texas retailers, the actual number of affected Texans could be higher than what has been officially confirmed. If you believe this product sickened you or a member of your family, our lawyers may be able to help.
Previous Outbreaks of E. coli Linked to Raw Farm Cheese
In February 2024, Raw Farm Cheddar Cheese was recalled after it was linked to an outbreak of E. Coli illnesses in Texas and other states. This cheese was sold nationwide at Sprouts Farmers Market and Bristol Farms. Other retailers may have also sold this cheese.
As of March 26, 2024, CDC announced that the outbreak was over. There were a total of 11 illnesses in 5 states (California, Colorado, New Jersey, Texas and Utah). There were a total of 5 hospitalizations. Two victims developed HUS, a serious condition that can lead to kidney failure. No deaths were reported.
RAW Farm initially agreed to a recall due to this outbreak in 2024, but then withdrew the recall after tests on the products were negative for E. coli.
