What is the Problem?

Baby loungers have been linked to dozens of tragic, preventable infant deaths in recent years. Safety officials in the U.S. have documented at least 79 deaths and 124 injuries between 2010 and 2022, mostly involving babies under 3 months old who suffocated.

What is a Baby Lounger?

Baby loungers are portable cushions for babies to rest. It is illegal to advertise baby loungers for infant sleep in the U.S, but many products are used this way. Despite the risk of suffocation and death, parents commonly use baby loungers in cribs or beds for sleeping babies.

Types of Baby Loungers

The most well-known baby loungers in the U.S. are the DockATot, Boppy, Podster Infant Lounger, and the Snuggle Me Organic Infant Lounger.

Why Is Amazon Still Selling Baby Loungers?

There are also countless generic baby loungers that are being sold on Amazon by sellers that are mostly based in China. Safety officials said they are working with firms like Amazon to keep these products off the marketplace, where they are often illegally advertised for sleep.

Baby Lounger Recalls

In recent years, a large number of recalls have been announced for baby loungers sold on Amazon. Some examples include:

Other Names for Baby Loungers

Baby loungers are also sometimes called:

  • Baby nests
  • Baby sleepers
  • Pods and docks
  • Baby nappers
  • Inclined sleeper
  • Infant support cushions
  • Infant pillows and cushions
  • Infant positioner (such as the Nap Nanny)

Snuggle Me Discontinued After Strict Safety Rules for Infant Support Cushions

One of the original, and still one of the most popular baby loungers, is the Snuggle Me Organic Infant Lounger. In November 2025, the company announced that it would stop selling the Snuggle Me Baby Lounger in the U.S. because they do not meet strict new safety standards for “infant support cushions.”

In May 2025, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) adopted a new rule for infant support cushions. These products must adhere to strict new safety requirements for restraints, cushion firmness, maximum incline, and seam strength.

Parents Should Immediately Stop Using Baby Loungers

In December 2023, the CPSC warned parents to immediately stop using all baby loungers because they pose a risk of suffocation, falls, and death.

Warning Labels for Infant Sleep Cushions

Infant sleep cushions manufactured after May 5, 2025 must also have a warning label with a bold-face warning: “USING THIS PRODUCT FOR SLEEP CAN KILL.”

  • Babies can turn over or roll out without warning and CAN SUFFOCATE in only a few minutes.
  • Use on the floor with baby on back, face-up. Put baby on back after Tummy Time.
  • Stay near and watch baby during use.
  • Do not use on soft surfaces or in sleep products like cribs or bassinets. Keep blankets and other soft items out of and away from product.
