March 27, 2024 — A group of 10 lawsuits have been filed against Sensio Inc. by people who were burned by Bella or Crux Pressure Cookers.
The lawsuits involve people who claim that they were burned when hot food blew out of the pressure cooker when they opened the lid.
All of these lawsuits blame their injuries on defective lids with faulty safety features that failed to lock the lid until it was safe to open.
The lawsuits claim that Bella and Crux Pressure Cookers are defective because unsuspecting consumers can easily twist open the lids when there is still a dangerous amount of pressure inside the pot.
The group of 10 pressure cooker lawsuits includes:
- Mariama Dukuray v. Sensio, Inc. (Crux Model Number M-80B30BG electric pressure cooker)
- Dr. John Thomas Friedland v. Sensio, Inc. (Bella Model Number M-80B23G electric pressure cooker)
- Damien Sheppard v. Sensio, Inc. (Bella Model Number JY-PC20US-11P stovetop pressure cooker)
- Tanya Foster v. Sensio, Inc. (Bella Model Number JY-PC20US-5P stovetop pressure cooker)
- Helena White v. Sensio, Inc. (Bella Model Number M-60B23G electric pressure cooker)
- Eunice Sellers v. Sensio, Inc. (Crux Model Number M-80B30BG electric pressure cooker)
- Timothy O’Brien v. Sensio, Inc. (Bella Model Number M-80B30AG electric pressure cooker)
- Rebecca Brignoni v. Sensio, Inc. (Bella Model Number M-10B31G electric pressure cooker)
- Victoria Vongnaphone v. Sensio, Inc. (Bella Model Number M-60B23G)
- Tarcel King v. Sensio, Inc. (Bella Model Number M-80B30AG)
The lawsuits involve stovetop and electric pressure cookers that were recalled by Sensio in August 2023 due to a risk of burn injuries.
The recall involved about 860,000 Bella, Bella Pro Series, Crux, and Cooks pressure cookers. According to the recall, “the pressure cooker’s lid can unlock and be removed during use, causing the hot contents to unexpectedly splash out, posing a burn hazard.”
At the time of the recall, Sensio reported 63 incidents where consumers were able to open the lid while the pressure cooker was being used, including 61 people who were burned by hot food or liquid that splashed out.
