October 20, 2017 — Frozen yellowfin tuna steaks have been recalled from stores in 6 states after tests by the FDA were positive for the food poisoning bacteria Salmonella.
The FDA announced the recall for “Frozen Newport® Tuna Loins” distributed by Relish Foods Inc. of Culver City, California.
The product has not been linked to an reports of food poisoning, but infections with Salmonella can be severe or deadly — especially for young children, older adults, and people who are sick.
The yellowfin tuna loins were sold from the seafood department. They may have been on a tray covered with plastic-wrap, or sold in individual pieces and wrapped in “butcher’s paper” for each customer.
The product was distributed between August 15, 2017 and September 25, 2017 at stores in Washington, Oregon, Northern California, Nevada, Idaho, and Arizona.
The grocery stores include Basha’s, Randall’s Fine Meats, Yokes Fresh Market, CalMart, Raley’s, Concord Produce Market, Bel Air Market and Speedy Market and Nob Hill.
