June 24, 2019 — UNFI recalled frozen Woodstock Organic Grilled Red Peppers after a bag tested positive for Listeria bacteria contamination.
No illnesses have been reported. The recall was issued after the Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH) reported that a product tested positive for Listeria during routine testing.
The recalled red peppers were sold nationwide in a 10-ounce plastic bag with UPC 4256301714, Lot #60B, and an expiration date of April 2020.
The bacteria Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious and sometimes fatal food poisoning, especially in young children, older adults, people with weak immune systems, and pregnant women.
Healthy adults may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Pregnant women who are infected with Listeria can suffer a miscarriage, stillbirth, or infection of the newborn baby.
