October 8, 2019 — E.A. Sween Company has issued a recall for pre-packaged sandwiches that were sold at Walmart, Target, and other stores due to a risk of Listeria contamination.
The recall was issued in response to another recall by Tip Top Poultry Inc. for all chicken produced between January 21, 2019, and September 24, 2019.
E.A. Sween recalled pre-packaged sandwiches that were sold under the following brand-names:
- Archer Farms
- Market Artisan
- Market Sandwich
- Deli Express
- Good to Go
- Kum & Go
The sandwiches involved in the recall include chicken salad, tuna salad, egg salad, cranberry/almond chicken salad, everything bagels, smoked ham & cheese sub, croissants, turkey Havarti, and more.
No illnesses were reported as of the recall date. However, infections with Listeria monocytogenes can be very severe or deadly.
The short-term symptoms in a healthy adult may include a high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, or diarrhea.
Invasive infections can also spread to the bloodstream and cause meningitis (brain inflammation). In pregnant women, Listeria can cause miscarriages, stillbirths, or infection of a newborn baby.
