February 25, 2019 — Select Walmart stores and other retailers in 9 states recalled Marketside® bags of fresh green beans and bags of butternut squash cubes because they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes bacteria.
What Products Were Recalled?
Southern Specialties Inc., of Pompano Beach, Florida, announced the recall after a supplier discovered Listeria contamination on a food-contact surface. No illnesses have been linked to the recall.
The recall includes about 200 cases of Marketside® 12-ounce and 32-ounce bags of green beans, and 16-ounce bags of butternut squash.
Consumers can use the following information to determine if they have the recalled product. Anyone who has the recalled product should not eat it.Destroy it or return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.

Where Was the Recalled Food Sold?
The recalled products were shipped on February 17, 2019. They may have been sold at select Walmart stores and other grocery stores in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia.
Were Any Illnesses Reported?
No illnesses were reported, but Listeria infections often become invasive, causing bloodstream infections, meningitis, or pregnancy complications like stillbirth, miscarriage, or infection of the newborn.
Listeria infections are especially serious for young children, pregnant women, older adults, and those with weak immune systems.
Symptoms of Listeria Illnesses
Symptoms of a Listeria infection may not appear for up to 70 days. Pregnant women may not have any symptoms before suffering complications. The symptoms may include:
- Headache
- Neck stiffness
- Abdominal pain
- Nausea
- Fever
- Diarrhea
