Viking Dishwasher Recalled After 21 Reports of Fires

August 7, 2015 — Viking Range LLC has issued a recall for about 17,300 built-in dishwashers because an electrical component can overheat, posing a fire hazard.

Viking has received 136 reports of the connectors overheating, including 21 reports involving fires that caused property damage. No injures have been reported.

The recall involves the Viking Professional, Designer, and Custom Panel dishwashers manufactured before April 1, 2011. They are 24 inches wide and sold in black, white, other custom colors, stainless steel, or wood-paneled. The “Viking” brand appears on the control panel on top of the door.

Model numbers starting with DDB200, FDB200, VDB200,  DFB450 with date codes before 120110 (December 1, 2010) and model numbers VDB450 VDB325 or DDB325 with date codes before 040111 (April 1, 2011) are included in the recall.

The dishwashers were sold nationwide at appliance and specialty retail stores from July 2008 through March 2012 for between $1,225 and $2,000.

This is not the first time the dishwashers have been recalled. In April 2012, Viking recalled about 2,000 dishwashers after receiving 21 reports of incidents, including five reports of property damage from fires. The Viking 24″ Professional, Designer and Custom Panel dishwashers were made between May and September 2010. No injuries were reported.
