Vape Explosion Victim Awarded $1.9 Million
The New York Daily News reports that a jury in California awarded $1.9 million to Jennifer Ries, a woman who suffered 2nd-degree burns on her legs and hands after her vape exploded on a car charger.

Since 2009, the news media has reported around 200 vape explosions, according to a comprehensive list compiled by eCigOne. About half of those reports involve burn injuries, 44% occurred during charging, and 25% occurred during use.
What is the Risk?
Nearly all vapes are powered by lithium-ion batteries that contain a highly-flammable liquid encased in a metal cylinder. When vapes are overheated, the liquid boils and increases pressure inside the cylinder. This can cause an explosion that looks like a firework or small rocket. It can also shoot metal shrapnel.
