July 24, 2015 — The Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC) has recalled about 71,000 strollers because children might choke on pieces of the bumper bar.
The manufacturer, UPPAbaby, has received 22 reports of “children biting off a piece of the bumper bar foam.” No injuries have been reported.
Stroller models included in the recall:
- The 2015 CRUZ strollers cost $500, had “UPPAbaby” name and logo printed on the side of the canopy and “CRUZ” printed on the handlebars.
- The 2015 VISTA strollers sold for $860 and had grey or black aluminum frames, colored sunshade canopy, “VISTA” printed in white letters on the handlebars, and could hold up to three children.
- The 2015 RumbleSeat is a separate seat that is attached to the stroller frame, comes in various colors and allows the child to ride rear-facing, forward-facing, or reclined.
A full list of recalled model numbers is available on the CPSC website. All of the products have a foam bumper bar that goes across the middle of the stroller for the child to hold.
Fortunately, the remedy is relatively easy. Consumers should immediately take the bumper bar off the recalled strollers and contact the company for a free bumper bar cover and warning label.
