Two More Companies Expand Skipanon Seafood Recall October 19, 2015 — Two more companies have issued recalls for canned seafood made by Skipanon that may pose a risk of botulism.

No illnesses have been reported in association with any of the canned seafood recalls.

Pacific Oyster Company Recall

Pacific Oyster Company, also known as The Fish Peddler of Bay City, Oregon, has issued a recall for canned tuna, salmon, and smoked salmon. The products were sold at its restaurant and store and marked with codes starting with “OC.”

Recalled products include:

  • Premium Solid White Albacore Tuna
  • Pacific Salmon
  • Smoked Pacific Salmon

Bornstein Seafood Recall

Bornstein Seafoods, Inc. of Astoria, Oregon has issued a recall for canned salmon, sardines, sturgeon, and tuna with any code starting with “OC.”

Recalled products include:

  • Krooke’s Shanghaied Salmon
  • Fancy Pink Salmon
  • Pink Salmon
  • Smoky Pacific Sardines
  • Spicy Tomato Pacific Sardines
  • Sharyn’s “The Pink” Salmon
  • Smoked Albacore Tuna Filet
  • Smoked Sturgeon

FDA Warning: Skipanon Seafood and Botulism Risk

Skipanon Brand Seafood LLC recalled all of their products last week after FDA inspectors became concerned about possible under-processing. The products could potentially be contaminated with Clostridium botulinum, the bacteria that causes botulism.

According to the FDA:

“Botulism can cause the following symptoms: general weakness, dizziness, double-vision, trouble with speaking or swallowing, difficulty breathing, weakness of other muscles, abdominal distention, and constipation. People experiencing these problems should seek immediate medical attention.”
