Zimmer Persona Knee Replacement Recall

March 12, 2015 — A Class II recall has been issued for the Zimmer Persona Trabecular Metal Tibial Plate.

The problem with this knee replacement is that Zimmer has received a higher-than-expected number of complaints involving premature loosening. Some patients also had radiolucent lines, which are dark lines seen on an X-ray that indicate poor fixation.

Some patients whose implants loosened also needed revision surgery.

Approximately 11,700 of the implants were sold throughout the United States, including at over a dozen Veterans Affairs (VA) hospitals in California, Pennsylvania, Alabama, Ohio, and other states. They were sold from November 29, 2012 until January 23, 2015. Click here to read more.
