Blaine Labs Recalls Wound Care Gel for Bacterial Contamination
On April 7, 2026, Blaine Labs, Inc. of Santa Fe Springs, California voluntarily recalled 3 lot numbers of its Revitaderm® Wound Care Antiseptic Gel and Tridergel™ Wound Care after the products tested positive for Lysinibacillus fusiformis, an environmental, spore-forming bacterium.
The recall was initiated as a precautionary measure after laboratory testing confirmed the microbial presence. No adverse events had been reported as of the recall date, but the contamination itself is confirmed.
Which Products Are Included in the Recall?
The recall covers specific lot numbers of Revitaderm® Wound Care Antiseptic Gel (1 oz. and 3 oz.) and Tridergel™ Wound Care (1 oz.). The active ingredient in all products is Benzalkonium Chloride 0.1%.
- Lot BL3608 — Revitaderm® 1 oz., Exp. 07/01/28, shorter twist cap
- Lot BL3435 — Revitaderm® 1 oz. and 3 oz., and Tridergel™ 1 oz., Exp. 11/06/26, long pointy cap
- Lot BL3525 — Revitaderm® 1 oz. and 3 oz., Exp. 08/07/27, long pointy cap
Revitaderm® is identified by purple trim. Tridergel™ is identified by light blue trim. Lot numbers and expiration dates are printed on the bottom of 1 oz. bottles and imprinted on the crimp of 3 oz. tubes.
Who Is at Risk?
According to Blaine Labs’ own risk statement, Lysinibacillus fusiformis is generally considered to have low pathogenicity in healthy individuals. However, it can survive in adverse conditions and may act as an opportunistic organism. The company identifies the following groups as being at elevated risk:
- Patients with open wounds or compromised skin barriers
- Elderly individuals with age-related immune decline
- Diabetic patients with poorly controlled diabetes
- Young children with an immature immune system
- Immunocompromised individuals of any age
Blaine Labs warns that in immunocompromised individuals, these infections may become severe and lead to life-threatening complications such as endocarditis or central nervous system infection.
Where Were the Products Distributed?
The recalled wound care gels were distributed exclusively to healthcare providers — physician clinics and doctor’s offices — across the United States, including in Texas. They were not sold in retail stores or online.
Texas has a large network of dermatology clinics, wound care centers, and general practice offices that commonly use topical antiseptic gels on patients. If you received wound treatment at a Texas clinic and were not told what product was used, it is worth asking your provider to check their records.
Legal Help for Texans Harmed by Contaminated Wound Care Products
Texans in Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, Austin, and communities across the state visit physician clinics regularly for treatment of cuts, burns, and scrapes. When a product intended to prevent infection instead introduces bacteria into an open wound, the manufacturer may be held liable for the harm that follows.
Patients who were treated with recalled Blaine Labs wound care gel and who developed a wound infection, prolonged healing, or more serious illness may be entitled to compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, and other damages. Texas product liability laws are designed to protect patients in exactly these situations.
Time limits apply to filing a claim. The sooner you contact a Texas product liability lawyer, the better positioned you will be to protect your rights.
