What Should I Do?
- Get a blood test: Children who ate the recalled WanaBana Cinnamon Applesauce Pouches may need to get a blood test. This is the only way to conclusively diagnose lead poisoning.
- Tell your child’s doctor: Parents or caregivers should tell their doctor that the child was exposed to lead, so that the child can be screened for symptoms and long-term complications.
- Get checkups: Children who are diagnosed with lead poisoning will need routine checkups due to permanent brain damage and developmental delays.
- Get help in school: Lead poisoning can cause under-performance in school due to brain damage and problems with attention, behavior, hearing, and speech delays, so the child may need an Individual Education Plan (IEP).
