Walmart Recalls Jack Stands That Can Collapse Under Vehicles
On August 14, 2020, Walmart recalled 13,956 Hyper Tough® 2-Ton Jack Stands because they can break and collapse under a vehicle.
The recall involves Hyper Tough® 2-Ton Jack Stands (Model 2TJS and Part #0085001232400 that were sold from September 2019 through July 2020.
The model number 2TJS is on the product’s label over the barcode.
The recalled jack stands were manufactured from September 1, 2019 through October 31, 2019.
They were pulled out of stores on July 13, 2020, which was the same day that Walmart was notified that the jack stands failed safety testing by an independent third-party laboratory.
What is the Problem?
According to the recall notice (PDF), “The failure occurred in the ratcheting bar, which could result in the collapse of a vehicle being supported by the jack stand, potentially resulting in injury to persons near or under the lifted vehicle.”
What is the Risk?
Walmart is warning that the recalled jack stands may not support their rated load, which means they can suddenly break and collapse under a lifted vehicle. This failure could cause severe injury or death to a person who is working under the vehicle or nearby.
What Should I Do?
Walmart is asking consumers to immediately stop using the recalled jack stands and return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.
