May 27, 2021 — A jury in Texas awarded $1.1 million to a woman who tripped and fell at Walmart.
The lawsuit was filed by Julia W., a woman who tripped on a wet mat that was buckled in the middle.
The accident occurred while she was exiting the garden department of a Walmart store in Mount Pleasant, Texas, in December 2017.
She said she suffered facial bruising and permanent back injuries, including a compression fracture and bulging discs in her spine.
The federal jury in Texas found the store liable for her injuries and awarded her $164,250 for past pain and suffering, $365,000 for future pain and suffering, $328,500 for physical impairment, and more.
The lawsuit was filed against Walmart Inc. and Wal-Mart Stores Texas LLC in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas — Case Number 5:19-cv-00154.
