Liver Damage Linked to Tri-Methyl Xtreme
April 13, 2015 — The FDA is warning that Tri-Methyl Xtreme has been linked to three reports of liver damage in California, New Jersey, and Utah. No reports of death have been linked to the products.
The FDA warns:
“Products marketed as supplements that contain anabolic steroids pose a real danger to consumer. Anabolic steroids may have a range of serious adverse effects on many organ systems, and the damage may be irreversible.”
What is Tri-Methyl Xtreme?
Tri-Methyl Xtreme is a bodybuilding supplement sold by Las Vegas-based Extreme Products Group. It claims to contain anabolic steroids and is sold online and in some retail stores and gyms.
Anabolic Steroids and Liver Damage
Anabolic steroids are widely used for bodybuilding. They are also associated with an increased risk of liver damage, elevated liver enzymes, vascular changes in the liver (peliosis hepatis), and liver cancer.
Liver damage generally occurs within 1-4 months of starting steroids, but it can be delayed as long as 6-24 months. The onset is usually accompanied by nausea, fatigue, and itching followed by dark urine and jaundice (yellowing of the skin and whites of the eyes), according to the National Institute of Health (NIH).
What Should I Do?
If you have experienced health problems after taking Tri-Methyl Xtreme, seek emergency medical attention — especially if you have had symptoms of liver damage, such as unexplained fatigue, abdominal or back pain, discolored urine, or other unexplained changes in your health.
