February 2026: Tippy Toes Baby Food Recalled for Patulin
On February 13, 2026, Initiative Foods announced a recall for one lot of Tippy Toes® Apple Pear Banana Fruit puree due to elevated levels of patulin.
What is Patulin?
Patulin a poisonous substance called a “mycotoxin” that is produced by certain molds that commonly grow on fruit, especially apples and pears. No illnesses have been reported, but babies who are exposed to patulin can potentially get sick.
What Products Were Recalled?
The recall involves Tippy Toes® Apple Pear Banana Fruit Pureé, which is a baby food product that was sold in two-pack. Each tub is marked with Lot Number 07174 and a best by date of July 17, 2026.
The baby food was sold in in grocery stores in all states except Alaska, as well as Puerto Rico and Guam.
Health Risks of Patulin Exposure in Babies
There were no reports of any babies who got sick from the recalled Tippy Toes products. However, long-term exposure to patulin can lead to immune suppression, nerve damage, headache, fever, and nausea.
According to the FDA warning:
“Long-term exposure resulting from ingestion of patulin can lead to various adverse health consequences, including a potential for immune suppression, nerve damage, headache, fever, and nausea. No illnesses or injuries have been reported to date.”
What Should I Do?
The manufacturer is urging parents and caregivers to stop using and dispose of the product immediately, or return it to the place of purchase for a refund.
Parents and caregivers should “contact their healthcare provider if concerns arise regarding health after consumption of the Product.”
June 2023: Tippy Toes Baby Formula Recall in Texas
This is not the first time Tippy Toes has announced a recall. On June 16, 2023, PBM Nutritionals, LLC announced a recall for two types of infant formula products that were inadvertently released onto the market after being rejected for unspecified quality issues.
The products were distributed in the following states: IL, AL, IA, GA, MS, IN, AR, CO, FL, VA, OH, WI, PA, NH, AZ, KS, TX, TN, NC, LA, MO, KY, DE, WI.
The recalled baby formula products included:
- Parent’s Choice® Sensitivity Premium Infant Formula (638g, packaged in plastic tubs)
- Tippy Toes® Sensitivity Premium Infant Formula (638g, packaged in plastic tubs)
The recall was classified as Class III, meaning a low health risk. The recalled products have the following code information:
