Symbyax and Birth Defects

Symbyax contains two medications — the antipsychotc olanzapine (Zyprexa) and the antidepresant fluoxetine (Prozac). The problem with fluoxetine is that it passes through the placenta to an unborn baby during pregnancy. The FDA has issued a number of warnings about pregnancy risks, including Persistent Pulmonary Hypertension of the Newborn (PPHN).

FDA Warning: Symbyax and Skin Reactions

In May 2016, the FDA issued a Safety Communication to warn about rare but serious skin reactions from Symbyax.

This life-threatening condition is known as Drug Reaction with Eosinophilia and Systemic Symptoms (DRESS). It causes inflammation and rash spreading all over the body. According to the FDA:

“DRESS can result in injury to organs including the liver, kidneys, lungs, heart, or pancreas, and can lead to death. DRESS is a potentially fatal drug reaction with a mortality rate of up to 10%.”

The FDA has received 23 reports of DRESS in patients on olanzapine since 1996. Patients should seek emergency medical attention if they develop a fever, rash, swelling in the face, enlarged lymph glands, or other signs of a severe skin reaction.

What is the problem?

The Clark Firm, LLP is nationally recognized as a class action law firm in Texas. However, instead of filing a Symbyax class action, we are filing individual lawsuits for people who experienced severe side effects or had a baby with a birth defect.

About Class Actions

Class actions are the most efficient way for large groups of people to seek refunds for defective products. Everyone joins together and collectively seeks compensation. Any payout awarded by a jury verdict or settlement is divided equally.

Why Our Law Firm is Filing Individual Lawsuits as Opposed to a Class Action

In some cases, class actions have disadvantages for people with severe injuries. Members may have to accept “low-ball” settlements or higher legal fees, leaving little remaining for everyone in the lawsuit to share.

Our lawyers specialize in helping victims of dangerous drugs seek compensation for their injury, medical expenses, and more. There is no excuse for drug-makers who fail to warn about side effects. If you were injured, call today at (866) 879-3040.
