Overview

SunBurst Foods has been a provider of food services for grocery stores, institutions, and distributors since 1947. They are based in North Carolina, with distribution facilities in Goldsboro, Salisbury, and Vanceboro.

What is the problem?

October 12, 2014 — SunBurst Foods is voluntarily recalling all SunBurst, Fresh Bites, and Private labeled products because they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, a bacteria that can cause food poisoning.

Private label brand-names include:

  • River Edge Farms
  • CFW
  • Southern Zest
  • CJ’s Vending
  • Binford Street Deli
  • Middle Georgia Vendors
  • Roanoke Foods
  • Select Foods
  • Jesse Jones (Double Chili Dogs)

Recalled products were distributed in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, and Georgia. The recall was initiated after the North Carolina Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services had a sample test positive for Listeria.

What Products Were Recalled?

SunBurst Foods sells a variety of products, including pre-made sandwiches (Bologna & Cheese, Chicken Salad on Wheat, Turkey on Wheat, etc.), breakfast foods (Sausage & Egg on Bun, Pancake w/ Sausage, etc.), hamburgers and hotdogs, salads, fruits, vegetables, desserts, and more.
