Subaru Outback Acceleration Problems May Result in Car Accidents

A growing number of Subaru owners have reported unintended acceleration issues. Many of these reports involve Subaru Outback, Forester or Legacy vehicles that suddenly accelerated forward.

In May 2020, a group of Subaru owners filed a class action lawsuit against Subaru. The lawsuit claims the car-maker has known about sudden acceleration problems since at least 2011, yet failed to issue any recalls or try to fix the problem.

Subaru Class Action Filed After 200+ Owners Report Sudden Acceleration Problems

In May 2020, a class action lawsuit was filed by Subaru owners who claim their vehicles accelerate without warning — and accuse the auto-maker of hiding the defect.

Over 200 complaints about acceleration problems in Subaru vehicles have been reported to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), according to the class action lawsuit.

Here is an example of an incident in February 2019 that involved sudden acceleration in a 2012 Subaru Forester:

“I had my foot on the brake and was easing into a parking space. All of a sudden, the engine revved, and the vehicle surged and began to move forward on its own accord. I was unable to stop.”

The class action was filed by several Subaru owners, including Mr. and Mrs. Greenwald of New Jersey. In March 2020, she was driving a 2014 Subaru Forester that accelerated when the pressed the brake pedal. She lost control of the vehicle and it flipped over a guardrail.
