Steamfast Handheld Clothing Steamers Recalled for Burn Hazard
In February 2024, Vornado recalled about 2 million Steamfast, Vornado, and Sharper Image Handheld Clothing Steamers because they can leak extremely hot water and cause burn injuries.
What is the Problem?
The manufacturer received 122 reports of hot water “spraying or spitting from the steam nozzle,” according to the recall. At least 23 people reported burn injuries. The leaking hot water poses a “serious burn hazard to consumers,” according to the manufacturer.
How To Identify Recalled Steamers
The recall involves the following handheld clothing steamers:
- Steamfast Handheld Clothing Steamers (model numbers SF-425, SF-435, SF-440, SF-445, and SF-447)
- Vornado Handheld Clothing Steamers (model number VS-410)
- Sharper Image Handheld Clothing Steamers (model number SI-428)
These handheld clothing steamers were sold nationwide from July 2009 through January 2024 at Walmart, Bed Bath & Beyond, other stores, and online for between $14 and $35.
Recommendation for Customers
Vornado is asking customers to immediately stop using their Steamfast, Vornado, or Sharper Image Handheld Clothing Steamers and contact the company for a full refund or a free replacement.

Steamfast Travel Steam Iron Recall
In April 2023 and December 2023, Vornado recalled all Steamfast Home and Away Steam Irons (Model Nos. SF-717, SF-720, or SF-727), and Brookstone Steam Bug Travel Steam Irons (Model 606335). The power cord can become damaged near the cord bushing, which can lead to overheating of the cord, fires, and burn injuries. Cord damage also poses a risk of electrical shocks.
