Specialized E-Bikes Recalled for Safety Hazard

On March 27, 2025, Specialized Bicycle Components announced a Safety Recall for about 32,000 Como and Vado electric bikes (“e-bikes”) with Chain Guards because loose clothing can get caught in the belt drive.

What is the Problem?

Specialized recalled Vado and Como e-bikes because the bike’s protective chain/belt guard does not cover the belt drive. “Loose clothing can get entrapped in the belt drive, posing a fall hazard.”

The recall involves chain guards on Internal Gear Hub (IGH) e-bikes, including the Specialized Turbo Como IGH, Turbo Como SL IGH, and Turbo Vado IGH e-bikes that were sold between 2021 and 2024.

Where Were They Sold?

The recalled Specialized Vado and Como e-bikes were sold at authorized Specialized Bicycle retailers nationwide and online from March 2021 through November 2024 for between $3,250 and $5,750.

How Do I Check If My E-Bike Was Recalled?

Specialized is urging customers to check the recall notice at https://www.specialized.com/us/en/27-march-2025-safety-notice for a list of recalled bike models.

The recall involves e-bikes with the following model numbers:

• VADO 5.0 IGH
• VADO 5.0 IGH ST
• VADO 5.0 IGH STEP THROUGH UL

If your bike has a rear derailleur, it is not a gear hub-equipped bike, and it is NOT being recalled.

What Should I Do?

If your e-bike was recalled, stop riding it and make a service appointment with your nearest authorized Specialized retailer. They will inspect the e-bike and fit an updated chain guard at no cost to you.
