CPSC Warns Consumers to Stop Using OUSPT Snorkel Masks
On March 5, 2026, the CPSC issued an urgent product safety warning telling consumers to immediately stop using OUSPT Full-Face Snorkel Masks due to a serious drowning hazard.
The warning covers approximately 84,000 masks sold on Amazon.com from March 2019 through February 2026. The seller, Field Life of China, has not responded to CPSC requests for information or a recall.
What is the Problem?
The OUSPT mask uses a sealed full-face design that covers both the mouth and nose inside a single enclosed chamber. Unlike traditional snorkels that allow fresh air to circulate, the OUSPT’s design allows exhaled carbon dioxide to accumulate inside the mask.
As CO2 levels rise, users experience labored breathing, dizziness, and loss of consciousness — and in the water, that leads to drowning.
“The mask can cause consumers to experience labored breathing, causing loss of consciousness or excess fluid in the lungs that can lead to drowning. In addition, the mask can give rise to increased levels of carbon dioxide which can exacerbate the difficulty of breathing in the mask.”

How Many People Were Injured?
The CPSC has documented the following incidents involving the OUSPT mask:
- Five consumers reported trouble breathing, light-headedness, or loss of consciousness while using the product
- One lawsuit has been filed alleging the mask caused a drowning fatality
Texas is one of the most active states for water recreation in the country, and with 84,000 of these masks sold nationally, thousands of Texans may own one. Any Texas resident who experienced breathing difficulty, blacked out, or was injured while using one of these masks may have a legal claim.
Which Masks Are Affected?
- Brand name “OUSPT” printed on the snorkel tube
- Full glass screen covering the entire face
- Breathing apparatus covering both mouth and nose
- Snorkel pipe located at the top center of the mask
- Available in various colors
- Sold exclusively on Amazon.com from March 2019 through February 2026
Legal Help for Snorkel Mask Victims in Texas
Texas families flock to the Gulf Coast, South Padre Island, Lake Travis, and dozens of other waterways every year for snorkeling, swimming, and water recreation.
Full-face snorkel masks like the OUSPT have become popular purchases on Amazon because they seem easier and more comfortable than traditional gear. But that sealed, full-face design is exactly what makes these masks so dangerous.
What is the Risk?
When a full-face mask traps carbon dioxide inside the breathing chamber, users can quickly go from feeling fine to dizzy, disoriented, and unconscious. In a pool, a lake, or the open water off Padre Island, losing consciousness means drowning.
This is not a risk that comes with a warning label. Most users have no idea it is happening until it is too late.
The CPSC has already received reports of people blacking out while wearing this product. There is an active lawsuit alleging a drowning death. Texans who purchased these masks on Amazon between 2019 and 2026 may have one in their garage, beach bag, or vacation gear right now.
