230,00 Segway Scooters Recalled After 20 People Injured

In March 2025, Segway recalled about 230,000 Ninebot Max G30P and G30LP KickScooters due to a risk of serious injuries or death when the scooter handlebars or stem unexpectedly fold up during use.

What is the Problem?

The recall involves electric scooters (also called “e-scooters”) with a foldable handlebar and stem for easy storage and transportation.

According to the recall, people can be injured when the folding mechanism unexpectedly fails while the scooter is being used:

“The folding mechanism can fail and cause the handlebars or stem to fold while the scooter is in use, posing a fall hazard to consumers.”

What is the Risk?

No life-threatening injuries were reported, but e-scooters can hit speeds of 20 mph or more. If the handlebar or stem of the scooter suddenly fails, there is a risk of life-threatening injuries or death.

How Many People Were Injured?

Segway said it received 68 reports of the folding mechanism failing, including 20 people who reported injuries, such as:

  • Abrasions (scrapes)
  • Bruises
  • Lacerations (cuts)
  • Broken bones)

How To Identify Recalled Segway Scooters

The recall involves Segway Ninebot Max G30P and Max G30LP KickScooters, which were sold from January 2020 through February 2025 nationwide at at Best Buy, Costco, Walmart, Target and Sam’s Club and online at Segway.com and Amazon.com for $600 to $1,000.

What Should I Do?

Segway is urging customers to immediately stop using the recalled e-scooters and register for a free maintenance kit. This kit will have tools and instructions for checking and tightening the folding mechanism and keeping it properly maintained.
